On-Line UPS

Flow Diagram :

Normal Operating Conditions:
Under normal conditions if inputs mains voltage is within limits, the Charger/Rectifier converts AC to DC & charges the batteries as well as supplying current to the Inverter, to which the load is directly connected. Thus in an On-line UPS irrespective of whether mains is present or not the load is always connected to the Inverter.

Mains Failure:
When the Mains fails or goes out of permitted limits, the Charger output becomes zero, & the batteries which are kept floating across the Charger O/P terminals immediately supply power (DC Input) to the Inverter without any break. In an On-line UPS there is no requirement of any Change-over Mechanism for change over from Mains to the Inverter & hence the transfer is smooth & very fast. The Inverter will continue to supply load for the duration of battery discharge period.

Return of Mains:
When the Mains returns back to normal or within the permissible tolerance limits, the Rectifier/Charger again feeds the Inverter & recharges the batteries. The reconnection of Mains Supply causes no disturbance to the load.
